CALIFES Operation
Design and Layout:
Switch ON
- If no console manager is running, start it with ccm CTF3OP (linux command).
- Check CA.VVS0200 = open
- Check magnet power supplies on (default current setting)
These can be found in "WorkingSets" - "CLEX" - "CTF:CALIFES" (right mouse button click)
- Check CA.LL-MKS30 status is "RF authorization"
The phase (123deg by default) may be modified later to optimize the beam current throughput.
- Increase the klystron modulator voltage CTFMKDS30 to 42 kV at 3 kV/min
(acquisition = 41.5 kV)
Pulse shape can be viewed by the Sampler "CALIFES RF all".
- CA.SAPKI30A = klystron out
- CA.SAPLI30A = compressed pulse
- CA.SAGL30 = gun loop
- CA.STPKI30A = klystron out power in [MW]
- CA.STPLI30A = compressed pulse power in [MW]
Click on the bottom right button (signals) to select them.
- Switch on CA.MTV0215 and insert the screen (to monitor the gun output).
Can be done through the "CTF3 MTVs" program in the CCM "Measure" menu.
- Ask laser ON (25ns or 100ns pulse)
Laser pulse and position can be checked on CA.MTV0125 (virtual cathode)
which gived a mirrored image of the laser pulse.
- If no laser beam, verify the laser shutter is open.
timweb.cern.ch, choose TIM viewer and PS-access-primary-CTF.
Click on the CTF box and then open the laser shutter.
- Laser pulse position can be modified with the picomotors (linux command).
Beam image on CA.MTV0125 should have a position of 0+/-3 mm.
Choose CLEX and CA.MotorHor or CA.MotorVer for positioning.
Note that horizontal and vertical movement appear inversed with respect to the
motor name as CA.MTV0125 shows a mirrored image of the beam position.
Move max. 100 steps otherwise the picomotors will get stuck.
- Center the beam from the gun on CA.MTV0215 using steerers CA.DHG/DVG0130.
- Move the screen CA.MTV0215 out.
Control room operator console
- runcalifesmatlab.sh (start Matlab in CALIFES folder)

- CA.SABPMCAL-SIS5-3: CA.BPM 0410
- Access to dX/dY/Sigma signals via multiplexers BPM-ELN-1, BPM-ELN-2
- select desired BPM name in the working set CLEX::CALIFES
- select desired gain in the working set
- CA.BPMGAINSEL1, CA.BPMGAINSEL2: Sigma gain for ELN-1, ELN-2
- CA.BPMGAINXLEL1, CA.BPMGAINXYEL2: dX, dY gain for ELN-1, ELN-2
- connect and view the signal on OASIS channels
- CTF3 - CALIFES - BPM signals
- CA.CHANNEL0109 = dX1 on ELN-1
